Glen Elgin 2007 Berry Bros & Rudd Small Batch
Glen Elgin is situated some three miles south of the city of Elgin. It was the last distillery to be established during the Victorian era, when a collapse in the whisky market saw the distillery change hands several times before becoming part of the Distillers Company Ltd during the 1930s.
This robust Speyside distillate pairs wonderfully with the fresh ex-Pedro Ximenez butt into which it’s been finished for 18 months. The nose is a meeting of Glen Elgin’s trademark waxy marmalade notes and the viscous dried-fruit character that comes from the ex-sherry butt. This theme is continued on the palate with a myriad of fresh fruits appearing from the distillate, merging playfully with powerful spicy notes from the wood. An excellent dram for a long winter’s evening.
